What does it mean for you to fight for the UFC? Fighting for the UFC means everything to me. When other kids wanted to be cops and doctors, I wanted to be a UFC fighter. I used to get made fun of because of that dream. Now I get to show the world that I belong.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I’ve been in this sport since I was 10 years old. I was supposed to be a statistic, but I knew what I wanted, and I’ve dedicated my life to it.
Who is your favorite fighter and why? My favorite fighter is Lyoto Machida. When he stepped on the scene, he was the “unsolvable puzzle.” He was a southpaw, and he used his skills to trap his opponents and capitalize on their mistakes.
Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? I don’t really have a hero. Maybe my mom, for having five kids by the time she was 25.
What are your current ranks in martial arts? I’m a blue belt in BJJ, and I’ve been wrestling for more than 10 years.
Specific accomplishments in pro competition? Current UpNext Bantamweight Champion
What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? My last fight. Every fight is the most important fight of my career. One loss or one win can change the trajectory of my career. I’ve had no easy fights, and I’ve never picked my opponents.
Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? I want to show kids that no matter what life obstacles you go through, you can accomplish your dreams. Hard work and belief.
Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? My family and friends motivate me. I’ve been in this sport since I was 10 years old, and my family has invested a lot into me. I was supposed to be a statistic, but I knew what I wanted and I’ve dedicated my life to this.
What was your job before you started fighting? I worked as a food delivery driver and a personal trainer.
Favorite grappling technique: Blast Double
Favorite Striking technique: Check Hook
Tell us about your life outside of fighting: For the last five years, I’ve dedicated everything to training and fighting. There’s not much time for anything else, haha. I’m a cat dad with two cats. If I’m not training, you can catch me at the beach or eating. Eating might be a hobby, haha. I also like to play video games with the bros.
