When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training BJJ when I was six years old, but even before then I dreamed of one day being a fighter. I was raised by a single father, and some of my first memories are of watching the early UFC events with him. I started jiu-jitsu with the dream of one day stepping into the UFC Octagon.
What ranks and titles have you held? I’m a second degree BJJ black belt. I’ve won multiple IBJJF world championships at colored belts, as well as the No-Gi Pan Championship at black belt.
Do you have any heroes? For sure, my father is my hero. He raised me as a single dad when he was just 18 years old. He did everything for me as a kid to make my dreams possible. It wasn’t always easy growing up in Brazil with so little help. But he did everything he could for me. When it comes to athletics, some of my heroes are the pioneers of women’s combat sports. Ronda Rousey, of course, was a huge inspiration for me that my dream of being a UFC fighter could really come true.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? Fighting in the UFC is the culmination of a crazy dream that started out in a small city in the middle of the Amazon. A lot of people told me to follow a different path, to do something “more girly” but I never wavered from my dream.
Specific accomplishments in pro competition? Former LFA 115 champion. I successfully defended my belt one time (last September) before signing with the UFC.
