When and why did you start training for fighting? I was a fat kid growing up (really fat) and after high school I started losing weight and getting into better shape. I got into training MMA to mix up my workouts and learn some self-defense. After a few months, my coach thought I was pretty good and asked me if I’d be interested in taking a fight. I figured, why not? I’m 21 and played sports my whole life and now I have nothing to do, let’s give it a shot. I won my first fight by KO in the third round and haven’t looked back since.

What ranks and titles have you held? I’m a brown belt in BJJ and I’m the two-time heavyweight champ for Reality Fighting.

Do you have any heroes? Not really. I have a lot of people that I respect/admire for their accomplishments, but I wouldn’t really call anyone my hero.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s a cliché, but this is a dream come true. I’ve had this goal for 14 years and I’ve had one hurdle after another slow me down and sometimes flat out derail me. Getting to this level is a huge personal accomplishment for me and gives me a strong sense of pride.

What was your job before you started fighting? I had a couple, most recently construction and carpentry, but I’ve also been a personal trainer, worked night club security, and coached kickboxing.
