Dana White's Contender Series, Season 9

Week 5 (9/9/25) Asplund knocked out Anthony Guarascio by punches and elbows at 0:16 of the first round

Biggest difference in training for this fight? I think the biggest difference was just the amount of heavyweight rounds we got in this time around.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training just over 4 years ago. I knew I had a baby on the way, so I just wanted to make some extra money to feed my daughter.

Any accomplishments in amateur combat sports? I won 3 different amateur titles coming up through the regional circuits.

Any belts/ ranks in grappling disciplines? Blue belt in jiu jitsu

What has been your toughest fight to date and why? Toughest fight to date was probably my last one against Raiden Kovacs. I had a good exchange in the first 10 seconds, admired my work a little too long. He took me down and I ended up having to endure the rest of the round trying to survive. KO’d him 2:30 into the second.

Who is your favorite fighter and why? My father was always my favorite fighter as he did this for a pretty long time. Currently, it’s “Blessed!” His positivity, as well as confidence, whilst being one of the baddest men on the planet ,and his fight style is incredible.

What was your job before you started fighting? I’m currently a concrete laborer

Social media accounts: Steven_Asplund on instagram and steviea75 on twitter

Origin of nickname: I stole my daddy’s. But I also followed in his footsteps in regard to work and the fighting.

Personal Life / Background: I have a three-and-a-half-year-old I’m fighting to get more time with, I am a second-generation concrete worker and fighter, I used to be 525+ lbs, my lady and family support me more than I could ever ask, and I love this s**t.

Who are 3 people you'd love to meet or work with? I’d love to meet Mike Tyson, just because he’s so philosophical and intimidating at this age. Shane Gillis, dude’s funny as hell, and Adam Sandler.

What are your hobbies, activities or other interests when not training for a fight? I’m a huge video game nerd, big into video games and being with family.
